Scent Detection |
|
CKC Scent Detection is a newer sport for dog enthusiasts which began in 2019. It is one of the most instinctual things you will ever train your dog to do. Most dogs can participate, they just need to be inquisitive. No prerequisite training is required; in fact too much obedience training while scenting is discouraged!
Dog training is only part of the equation, knowing how scent behaves in the environment is also crucial to good handling and successful outcomes. Dogs in scent training learn confidence through empowerment in new situations. The intense mental workout provides owners with a great way to work off a dogs extra energy anywhere they go. I offer CKC scent classes through the Belleville and District Kennel Club. They are held at Loyalist Veterinary in Belleville as well as throughout the Quinte district.

I have been trained as an Environmental technologist and have a keen interest in the chemistry behind scent volatility, and movement. Air monitoring experience gives me an advantage in understanding how scent may be dispersed in different situations and environments. In class I teach the scientific reasoning behind the exercises empowering students to understand and problem solve on their own.
